Ray's paintings are in the main observations from within the English Countryside, especially the English Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Ray captures in his own unique way activities of the local inhabitants and visitors of the area. His subject depicts a way of life, locals at work side by side with the tourist and outdoor activity fraternity. His paintings can be described as caricaturist with a hint of LS Lowrie and Peter Brook influence.  Peter Woolley, TV artist, describes Ray's work as very unique.

Ray has a love of the Yorkshire Dales, Swaledale is a  particular favourite. The painting left is Gunnerside, Swaledale.

Borowdale Valley in the lake District is described by Ray as 'probably my favourite place in the Lake District. So many memories here over the years.One particular area with a special place in my heart is the village of Stonethwaite, about 7 miles south of Keswick. I am not sure  it ranks as a village as it seems to be more of a hamlet. I am sure I will be put in my place by the locals for that comment, but it was meant as a compliment , honest !'

Snuggled into Stonethwaite is the Langstrath Country Inn and Restaurant. The painting left, walkers and locals alike enjoyng a 'bevy or two'  in front of the Langstrath Inn. It can be seen in the Public Bar with another example of Ray's work.

'Flocking to Ewe Tree'

Ewe Tree Farmstead is situated in the village of Rosthwaite,Borrowdale.

The B+B part of the business is known to be patronised by HRH Prince Charles.

'Ashness Attraction'

Ashness Bridge said to be the most Photographed bridge in the Lake District.

never ceases to fill Ray with pleasure and a feeling of satisfaction that he is once again approaching his spiritual home
